Fiverr Temporarily Disables Accounts of Pakistani Freelancers Amid Internet Disruptions
Social media Reports indicate that Fiverr, Why Fiverr temporarily Disables in Pakistan? On Tuesday, several social media users in Pakistan shared a brief ref showing that Fiverr had deactivated their gigs from their Fiverr account.
A widely circulated screenshot on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook showed a message from Fiverr explaining that the account suspensions were due to widespread internet service disruptions in the country. The message stated, “We recognize that internet issues in your area have made it challenging for you to continue your work. While this may delay your orders, it will not impact your ratings. Consequently, we have temporarily disabled the status of your gigs.”
Fiverr clarified that these measures are temporary and will not affect the freelancers’ ratings. Users have been sharing this message online and expressing various opinions. One user, Noori, remarked, “The disruption of freelancers’ income in Pakistan needs to be addressed.”
Sources indicate that Fiverr’s action aims to prevent negative impacts on freelancers’ response rates and ratings due to ongoing internet issues. Noori also mentioned that a freelance agency owner reported Fiverr had notified clients about the delays caused by the internet suspension in Pakistan.
Another user, Ehtsham, highlighted that with over 2.3 million freelancers in Pakistan relying on internet services, frequent outages are pushing clients to seek services from other countries. Ehtsham added, “If the government cannot create job opportunities for the youth, it should at least not deprive them of their existing clients.”
Ahsan Wahid pointed out that Fiverr, the largest freelancing platform globally, has disabled the profiles of Pakistani freelancers. He noted that Pakistan’s freelancing sector contributes over $500 million annually and ranks as the fourth-largest freelancing community worldwide.
While many users expressed frustration with Fiverr’s decision, some disputed the issue, claiming that accounts with verified status were still operational without issues. Others also denied that accounts had been disabled, asserting that Pakistani freelancers’ profiles were still online.
Freelancers confirmed to Urdu News that they had received notifications on their Fiverr profiles in recent days indicating that their gigs were unavailable. Freelancers offer various services through gigs, which are expected to be completed within set deadlines and at agreed prices, impacting their ratings on Fiverr.
Due to the internet outages, many freelancers have struggled to meet deadlines, potentially affecting their reputations and future orders. Fiverr’s temporary gig suspension aims to prevent losses for both freelancers and clients.
From another perspective, while this measure does not significantly inconvenience clients, who can easily find freelancers from other regions, it does result in losses for the affected freelancers. A social media user shared a screenshot of Fiverr’s full message, which mentioned that freelancers who experience stable internet service can reactivate their gigs by following the instructions.
